sports massage at The Bodywork Studio in Highbury
During training, a large amount of stress is placed on the
tendons and ligaments, sometimes stretching them too far and causing
tears to the muscle fibres.
Sports massage helps the healing process and improves joint movement.
It also stimulates circulation and loosens muscle fibres. Lymph
circulation is improved, which helps remove toxins and lactic acid and
also lubricates the muscle, decreasing friction.
After an injury, scar tissue can prevent muscle fibres from aligning in
the correct position. This can prevent full muscle function. Sports and
remedial massage can help break down scar tissue and improve
flexibility by allowing the muscle fibres to work effectively.

How often to have a massage and how long to book for
If you are training for an event, such as a marathon, a weekly or
fortnightly massage can help maintain peak performance. If you are not
in training, a massage every 4 to 6 weeks is advisable.
Appointments are available as 45, 60 and 90 minute massages. If you
have not had a sports massage before or if it has been a long time
since you have had one, a 60 or 90 minute massage is recommended.
