deep tissue massage in Highbury
Deep tissue massage is one of the most effective massages at relieving built up tension in the muscles. If you sit for long periods on a daily basis, you may begin to feel a loss of flexibility in your upper back, neck and shoulders. Deep tissue massage helps relieve tight muscles and improve flexibility by accessing deeper layers of tension in the soft tissues.During a deep tissue massage, you may feel some discomfort when tight muscle fibres are being massaged. You may experience this discomfort as "good pain" as you begin to feel a release of tension in the muscles. The aim of deep tissue massage is not to cause pain but to release tension, so it is important for me to receive feedback from my clients. Every client is different and while one may enjoy a very deep massage, another may prefer a medium or lighter massage. Deep tissue massage is not the only way to release tension, so if you can't cope with the discomfort, there are other remedial techniques that can be used. I have completed a diploma course in Advanced Bodywork, which includes techniques such as myofascial tissue release and facilitated stretching, both of which are pain-free for you, but can help ease tightness in the soft tissue.
What to expect afterwards
You may experience tenderness after deep tissue massage in areas where there was a lot of tenion. This may last a day or two. You should feel a great improvement after this. The more regularly you have a massage, the less painful it should be afterwards because you are preventing the build up of tension in the first place.
For example, one of my very active clients who regularly did martial arts, as well as other sports, had not had a massage for some time. He found his first appointment to be painful, but he noticed a change to his flexibility straight away and continued with regular appointments. After a few appointments, he was able to fall asleep during the massage, even though he was having a deep tissue massage.
How often to have a deep tissue massage
On average, a monthly massage will help keep your body healthy and flexible and reduce the amount of tension in your muscles. Appointments can be booked as 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
